Are all HP printer cartridges the same?
Not all HP printer cartridges are the same, there are hundreds of different models that vary not only from printer to printer, but also from region to region around the world. The inks and toners that we sell, both original HP and compatible versions, are designed to work in printers sold for the European market, but you will still need to make sure that you purchase the right model for your printer. You’ll need your printer model (this will be something like “OfficeJet 8014” or “ENVY 5640”) to find the right cartridges – once you have this you can click on it in the list above or type it into the search bar at the top of the page and we’ll show you all the cartridges that are suitable for your printer.
Can you refill HP printer cartridges?
It’s possible but we don’t recommend it. You can refill HP printer cartridges but, in most cases, you would also need to reset or replace the chip on the cartridge so that the printer doesn’t identify it as empty. Refilling printer cartridges used to be a viable option in the days before reliable compatible cartridges, and chips that could tell the printer whether the cartridge had been used before. Today, it is just as economical, considerably easier and a lot less messy to buy compatible cartridges instead.
Can I print if one cartridge is empty?
Generally, no, you can’t print if one cartridge is empty. It does depend on the printer model though; some older HP printers will allow you to print in black/greyscale if one of the colours is empty. This is unusual and is not recommended for inkjet printers, which need ink to cool the print head. Printing with one cartridge empty can permanently damage the head through overheating.
